Adulthood Ceremony

An air gurgle is considered a child until it turns twenty human years old. When a gurgle is twenty it is eligible for an adulthood ceremony. Any time after she turns twenty, a gurgle will receive an invitation to her adulthood ceremony. There are six ceremonies a year. At a ceremony, there is a banquet for all the eligible gurgles. Once they finish eating, the gurgles are called up one by one to see what their role in the air gurgle society and to officially be relieved of their mother's name. After every gurgle has gone, they fly around the entire Air Realm. They then return back to the Hall of Stairs, where the ceremonies take place. As they approach the oracle, they either say "I pledge myself to the life of gurgles", or "I sacrifice my life to live amongst humans". Those who choose to leave the Air Realm are each sent to a different town on earth. Those who stay continue their normal lives until the end of the season, and they begin their lives as full members of the Air Realm Society.
